Why do we draw/sketch?
I think it is the simplest and most important way for designers to get to know about the objects/spaces which are going to be built. And very basic method for designers to represent initial concept.
Start by...
Creating my own sketchbook, with a variety of different papers - different sizes and qualities. We were seriously reminded, DO NOT use a classic sketchbook.

Fig 1. Portraits of the class. Yuan Lin. October 2016.
Contour drawing - observing the subject without taking pencil/pen off the paper.
Blind drawing - observing the subject without looking at the paper.
Both are very sufficient methods to find the characters of the subject.

Fig 2. Portrait of Steveny. Yuan Lin. October 2016.
Unfortunately, Steveny was my first model. Appreciation for her patience, always. :)

Fig 3. Portraits of Frida and Jason. Yuan Lin. October 2016.
These too are both blind drawings. You can see where Jason's mouth went...but he is cool. :)

Fig 4. Portraits of Xiangyi Kong, Xinyue Yu and Zerwei Zhao. Yuan Lin. October 2016.
We had fun with painting each other's portraits.
Some sketches of NTU campus.
I started from the signature building of Nottingham Trent University, Newton.

Fig 5. Photos and sketches of Newton building, Nottingham Trent University. Yuan Lin. October 2016.
Amazing part is, Newton is seamlessly incorporating with Arkwright, which is a brilliant gothic house on the north side. My drawings are showing a small journey through the 2 sections.

This is Arkwright's entrance stair cases. You can already see the different interiors.
Out on Shakspear St, opposite of Boots Library, is very contemporary and colorful building ( can't see from my sketch, but the figure looks full of vitality ) , which is NTSU(students union).

Here goes my sketching life, after 10 years, again.
